What will I see?

“Walk beneath the Lion Gate and enter the House of Atreus”

This truly enchanting tour will take you on a journey that will span 3000 years of history from an Ancient Kingdom that predates the Golden Age of Athens by a millennia, to late a Renaissance Fortress, beautiful coastal towns, the healing centre of the ancient world, and finally a theatre from the 4th century BC that’s used even today!

Your journey will begin along the picturesque costal road towards the Corinth Canal. The canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland. After a short stop to view the canal you will continue to visit the site of ancient Mycenae, where the self-styled archaeologist, Heinrich Schliemann, unearthed Mycenae's treasures. Enter the site via a walkway lined by impenetrable cyclopean walls through the Lions Gate and visit the Tomb of Agamemnon. Afterwards visit the sites museum where artifacts intact have withstood time and unfold a story of a civilization.
After a morning of touring, we will stop at a local tavern for lunch in the Mycenaean countryside. Following lunch the next stop on this grand tour is the World Heritage Site of Epidaurus to visit the Santuary of Asklepios, the fabled healing centre of the ancient and later Christian world. Thereafter you will witness the acoustic wonders of the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus which although built in the 4th century, is still preserved and in use for performances today. Hosting modern productions of the ancient classics as well as musical recitals of performers such as the late Maria Callas and others.

The final stop on this Homeric journey f before returning to Athens, is the picturesque Venetian town of Nafplion. There your guide will take you for a leisurely stroll around the first capital of modern Greece. Nafplion sits at the foot of a cliff and is watched over by the mighty ramparts of the Palamidi Fortress up on the mountain. In the harbour the city is protected by the water castle Kasteli (Bourtzi). Here you will have free time on your own in the old pedestrian town of the city to take photos.
